P1 Generating Ideas - Idea 2

 Idea 2:

Genre: Comedy

Target Audience: 16-30 year olds

Theme: Sixth Form life / Late teenage years & The common problems teens face

Messages: That nobody's life is perfect or easy, that everyone has weaknesses and it's part of life to have bad experiences.

Representation: This series will have an overwhelming majority of young characters, with an equal mix of boys and girls aged 16-18. They will all be year 12 /13 students at a school in a semi-rural area and there will be a mixture of classes and races portrayed with a moderate level of diversity. School teachers will also feature throughout the series.

Storyline:
There would be 3 main characters who are all 16-18 year old boys and girls, and each episode of the series would contain a mixture of scenes of each of their lives, with many scenes containing all main characters. The story would follow many small-scale social dramas like people falling out, stress from school and such, with the overall plot being driven by long character arcs of the main characters.

Characters:

Hero - The protagonists would be the main characters, but they would all have flaws of their own and the audience would be made to root for different main characters in different episodes.

Villain - There would be a few "villain" characters throughout the series who would go against the main characters, such as a bully character or a manipulative boy/girlfriend, as well as perhaps abusive family members. The main characters would often face the villains alone, and not tell others about it until they feel safe to do so, where eventually the situation is resolved.

Donor - Donor characters would include kind teachers, parents and other minor characters who are friends. They would help other characters through problems to show the importance of allowing others to help you.

False Hero - There might be a false hero character in a few episodes that is competing with the main characters to achieve a common goal, perhaps trying to sway another character to side with them, competing for school awards, sports etc.

Binary Opposition: There would be lots of binary opposites showcased in the series, namely differences between "hero" and "villain characters". Perhaps as the series progresses, previously established binary opposites would be challenged as characters change, highlighting that rivalries and opposing forces can get past each other in time.

Series length:
The series will consist of 10 episodes, each 20-30 minutes long. This fits the length of most comedy drama series, which are shorter than more serious drama sub-genre episodes.

Age Rating:
The series would likely be rated 15 from profanity and potentially sexual or drug-related content since the series involves teens that might get up to such things.

Client Appeal:
I believe that the series would fit BBC3's ethos and style, mostly through the inclusion of a majority young cast and school setting, since the platform is aimed at 16-30 year olds which is a relatively young target audience who would be able to relate the series' content to their school life, which would be recent or current memory. The series would also cover topics considered "modern" like battles with drug use and struggle with race/gender conformity, as well as relatable topics like school stress and relationships.
